NCEC calls for reduction in the funding gap
The National Catholic Education Commission says that the school funding data in this week's Productivity Commission Report on Government Services 2012 shows that in the period 2005-06 to 2009-10 government funding for students attending non-government schools increased annually by an average of 0.7% while government funding for students attending government schools increased annually by an average of 2.7%.
Money alone does not educate kids
Closing the achievement gap between advantaged and disadvantaged students and a renewed commitment to public education of the highest quality in every community is essential for Australia’s future. The Australian Parents Council (APC) has consistently championed the cause of increased student funding, especially for students suffering from various forms of disadvantage. However, closing the gap between advantaged and disadvantaged students in both government and non-government schools will not be achieved just by increasing funding.
