The Australian Parents Council is assisted by funding from the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

School parents are digging deeper than ever into their own pockets to support the educational needs of their
children in the Australian school system, with the minimum national figure of additional parental support
clocking in at a huge $153 million annually.
Call to Action: Asia literacy for every young Australian - Prime Minister Kevin Rudd wants Australia to become “the most Asia literate country in
the world.” The National Statement for Engaging Young Australians with Asia in
Australian Schools (MCEETYA, 2005) sets out the skills and knowledge required to
equip young Australians to:
a) boost productivity through working with the world’s largest economies including
China, India and Japan
b) collaborate with our neighbours in Asia to resolve global issues including
environmental sustainability and poverty
c) strengthen our social capital through understanding
FAMILY SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS BUREAU - In February, Minister Gillard announced funding for a Family-School and
Community Partnerships Bureau, a joint venture between the Australian Council
of State School Organisations (ACSSO) and the Australian Parents Council (APC).
