The Australian Parents Council was honoured to participate in a public hearing in Canberra last year, providing evidence to the Joint Select Committee on Social Media and Australian Society.

Karen Robertson, Vice-President of APC, along with other esteemed colleagues, attended a Senate Inquiry on 30 September 2024. They discussed the impact of social media on Australian families and the risks associated with young people accessing potentially harmful and age-inappropriate content, while advocating for safer digital spaces for everyone.

The Australian Parents Council welcomed the Australian Government’s announcement of the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024, which enforces a minimum age for young people to access social media content. To read the full transcript of the hearing, please click here.
